Free Electric Car Charging Points Installed At Trowbridge Tesco Supermarket

It is hoped that the chain will install 2,400 ports across the country.  The Tesco supermarket in Trowbridge is one of the first to have been fitted with free charging points for electric cars. The ports have been installed as the result of a partnership between Volkswagen and Tesco which is aiming to see over 2,000 ports installed at 600 supermarkets across the country.

Without an iota of doubt an excellent initiative.  It is a win-win proposition for all stakeholders, to include Tesco’s, Volkswagen, Pod Point and customers.  Volkswagen commitment and leadership to zero-emission electric vehicles is well known, given its ambition in regards to its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) family, the VW ID.Family.  However, by going beyond the boundaries of manufacturing, by supporting the development of EV charging infrastructure, the German automotive group is demonstrating strong leadership in the zero-emission segment.  We believe, other automotive manufacturers should follow suit and work with local retailers and large-scale real estate owners, to promote the development of EV charging points.  In the long-term, the dividends to all stakeholders that have the vision to invest today, will be exponential.  Tesco, Volkswagen and Pod Point, are certainly well positioned to gain in due course from such initiatives.

Greta Thunberg In Bristol: Thousands Turn Out For Climate Strike

Teenage activist tells huge crowd: ‘We will not be silenced because we are the change’. Tens of thousands of people, many of them children skipping school, braved heavy rain to join a climate strike headed by Greta Thunberg in Bristol city centre. The vast crowd fell silent as the 17-year-old activist told them governments were acting like children and so it fell to young people to be “the adults in the room”.

It is indeed wonderful to have the teenage activist, Greta Thunberg back in the UK.  Greta is now a household name globally and synonymous with climate action.  We at e-zoomed certainly applaud and support her work and echo her strong message!  However, as her profile increases, so will the voices against her.  To some, she is ‘condescending’ and lacks credibility and she does solicit severe reactions from her critics.   In our view, the media narrative for the climate agenda needs to move away from its current focus on one individual i.e. Greta, despite all she has to offer. The narrative must be broader and focus on organisations and other personalities, not as well know as Greta, but nevertheless critical components of the climate framework. This will in due course, benefit more, the climate action agenda.

BMW Releases Details Of Its New Electric Car To Rival Tesla

BMW released Tuesday the details of an electric concept car, with production of the vehicle expected to start in 2021. In an interview with CNBC Tuesday, CEO Oliver Zipse described the BMW Concept i4 vehicle as bringing “electromobility  to the heart of the BMW brand.”

“It’s fast, it has an acceleration of less than four seconds from zero to 100 kilometers an hour, it has a range of 600 kilometers (about 373 miles),” Zipse, who was speaking to CNBC’s Annette Weisbach, said.

BMW has already gained valuable experience in the zero-emission electric vehicle sector, with the all-electric BMWi3.  The company claims to have sold 140,000 EVs in 2019.  The German automotive group is well positioned to leverage its EV experience thus far, to develop, manufacturer and sell new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) models.  The pure electric BMW i4 sedan is expected to be available in 2021.  The success of the BMW i4 is critical, to BMWs continued aspirations for emission-free driving.  However, competition is intense from market leaders, like Tesla and only time will tell if the BMW i4 is a real success, unlike the BMWi3 green car.
